Glenn111
Hi as above I have a c3 vti petrol that has been great for the past 3 years, problems started when one of the fuel injectors started leaking so replaced and sorted. Now I got a 02 senser fault so new sensor but the car starts fine runs well but after 15 minutes or so it starts dropping the idle at junctions and struggles to pick up till its on the move, no codes showing so any Ideas would be wellcome. thanks all
Glenn111
Hi now when I turn on the ignition it cuts for a few seconds resets the dash to original settings but starts .any help please
paul.h
For the dash resetting, check the battery voltage to see if it is ok, should be about 12.7 volts but if much less than about 12.3 volts it needs charging up. This might seem an odd suggestion but we had a 2003 C3 and that would do similar and from memory it stopped once a new battery was installed. Also check its terminal clamps are tight. For the idle problem, remove the air filter ducting so you can see the throttle flap and give it a clean to remove any carbon build up that might be restricting the air flow. Carb cleaner can be used but a cloth soaked in white spirit/turps will work. 15 minutes might be related to the time taken to warm up the engine when any programmed fuel mixture enrichment stops but is just a guess. Glenn111
Hi thanks for the advice . the battery was old ,so put a new one on ..no problem with resetting since, cleaned out air intake but still idle and throttle messing about ,no codes thrown out but may look at throttle and idle switch on throttle housing it has bolts so I presume it is serviceable. paul.h
Did the idle problem start after replacing the O2 sensor ? If so did you fit a genuine Citroen part since sometimes copy parts do not work as well. If you have a code reader that does live data you can see the O2 lambda sensors working - the inlet to the catalyst should be seen to switch frequently but the catalyst outlet one should be steady if the cat is working. Glenn111
thanks I got a cheap one on ebay , it all started with a leaking injector ,had a O2 sensor code changed that and the injector all codes cleared but idle and throttle playing up .Stalling at traffic lights ect so will try anouther O2 sensor see how it goes ..fingers crossed. paul.h
I am not sure but injectors might need to be coded to a car, something you could ask at a Citroen dealer if you go to one for the O2 sensor. This site has a bit of info on O2 sensors https://secure.lambdapower.co.uk/diagnosis/diagnostic_index.asp
Glenn111
thanks will look it up, would it not give a code if it was o2 sensor?

paul.h
How many miles has the car done ? The vti engines are known for early timing chain wear which will affect the timing which might give poor running. We had a C3 with the 1.4 vti engine and by 50k miles the chain was worn and it started giving fault messages. The dealer diagnosed a worn chain but before replacing it the car was part exchanged at the dealer for a diesel Cactus. The vti also used oil from the date we got it at only 12k miles.
