Hi just had a mot on my 2009 c5 estate and have been told it needs a new electronic handbrake cable .And have been told that it is only sold as a complete cable set and quoted me £900 just for the cable  + fitting and can only be done at a main dealer as it has to be programed to the car is this correct. ?

Sounds about right. The cable (Citroen part 470214) includes the electronic box that splits the cable to the 2 rear wheels. The book time to replace it is about 1½ to 2 hours and needs the diagnostic to calibrate it. Somebody on this forum was recently thinking of scrapping his 2008 C5 due to the cost of sorting the electronic handbrake. If you do have the repair, if the rear discs and pads are due for replacing then do it at the same time since this also needs the handbrake calibrating.

The procedure to replace it from the Citroen service box is copied below, the part numbers refering to ones in diagrams that can not be copied.

CAUTION : If raising the vehicle on a lift, wheels hanging, remove the cap of the LDS fluid reservoir. Refit the cap of the LDS fluid reservoir, once you have lowered the vehicle. Failure to do this can cause the LDS tank to split.
